WHAT WE BRING
The Academic portfolio encompasses a core set of events that provide students within the Alberta School of Business and beyond! They organize events such as Energize and AICC, and also facilitate student services such as the BSA book sale and locker rentals.
My name is Rachel, I am your VP Academic on the Business Students’ Association. Among many things, I am responsible for bringing internal and external academic events, such as case competitions and conferences, to the Alberta School of Business. However, the Academic Portfolio is much more than academic-related events!
The Academic Portfolio focuses on academic event opportunities, student services, and advocacy. I have three amazing Directors working to better each of these aspects. This year, my goal is to re-center the Academic Portfolio around student services accessible to all undergraduate business students throughout the year. We are bringing back classic services, like locker rentals and mentorship, and piloting new ones, such as sports equipment rentals and make-your- own business cards.
The BSA is also working to create Department Associations in the faculty. Having DAs, rather than clubs, representing majors means business students have additional resources available when they are in need of academic advocacy. Utilizing DAs that truly understand the inner workings of your program will help improve ASoB advocacy as a whole.
When not studying BLaw, I am in the treacherous depths of the local swimming pool teaching children lessons – if not found immediately, please check the deep end. Otherwise, I am at the movie theatre “researching” cinema – my second passion. Other times, I am most often in the Business building where I look forward to meeting and getting to know you. If you want to learn how to get involved in cases and conferences, are in need of a service, or just want someone to talk to about your academic path, I am here for you! I cannot wait to collaborate with you on how we can strengthen your academic career.
Academic Opportunity Director
Hello! Do you want to go beyond learning business skills within the classroom? Great, as the Academic Opportunity Director I will be bringing academic opportunities to you! This includes external and internal opportunities, such as conferences and case competitions. Regarding internal, there will be workshops to learn and improve case skills, the Alberta Internal Case Competition (AICC), and Apprentice. Some fun facts about me: I love tea and coffee equally and I can binge watch a whole season but I cannot sit through a whole movie.
Hi friends! Whether you have feedback about course offerings, programs available, or the Faculty at-large, I am the person who can help direct you in the right path to have your voice heard! As Advocacy Director, my goal is to empower undergraduate students at the Alberta School of Business and create opportunities for student engagement with the Faculty, the Student’s Union, and the University of Alberta on a department level. If you have a problem, I want to hear it, so come find me in the halls and let us chat (I like chai lattes)!
Hey there! My name is David and I am the Services Director for the 2017/2018 academic year. I am responsible for making student life a little bit easier and more enjoyable! I run the mentorship program, textbook and locker sales, and more. If you have a great idea for a service or program we can offer I would love to hear it! When not in class, you can find me playing sports and meandering through the outdoors.
